Day #2: Foundational Clinical Education (9hrs)
- 9 hrs of professional clinical education on a specific, selected topic. The 1st Establishing Foundational Clinical Course will present: The Human Hand: A study of Anatomy and the Anatomical Relationships of the Hand (Professional Video Edition)
Audience: Occupational Therapist’s with 0-3 years experience and/or a strong desire to advance their foundational behavior, treatment and clinical skills in the area of Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation.
Continuing Eduction Credit: The attendee will receive 18 continuing education credits following completion of the 2-day course.
Course Description: This 2-day course is designed for the young professional interested in establishing foundation competency in the field of hand and upper extremity. No hand and upper experience is necessary. Attendees should have a strong desire to advance their foundational behavior, treatment and clinical skills.
Whether you are an individual seeking to land a position in a hand and upper extremity clinic, a young professional currently working as a hand therapist, or an employer needing to establish foundational competencies in your recently hired hand and upper extremity therapist–this course is for you! There is no other course designed to establish and develop foundational clinical competencies in the critical areas of: Behavior, Treatment and Clinical Education. This course will provide the necessary foundational skills for the young therapist to become: a better team member, problem solver, patient-center individual, communicator, caseload builder, documenter, time manager, critical thinker, student educator and life-long contributor to the field of hand and upper extremity
The participate will be able to actively demonstrate the ability to:
- Identify, verbalize and effectively communicate the behavior/operational skills of: therapeutic use of self, establishing patient value in the treatment session, adding value to the business/organization, building a rewarding career not just a job, establishing meaningful peer and physician relationships, task analysis and time management, managing patient caseload, creating patient-centered documentation, understanding productivity, and building sustainable patterns of practice.
- Apply, verbalize and effectively communicate the foundational treatments skills of: combining self-study and patient care, creating a patient diagnostic complication list, prioritizing patient complications, identifying affected tissues, adjusting treatment based on the patient, applying relational anatomy to upper extremity pathology, incorporating kinesiology in the treatment of the upper extremity injury, applying the principles of orthotics, prioritizing treatment based on tissue presentation, establishing evidence-based exercise.
- Identify an understanding of intrinsic anatomy and relational anatomy of the hand within the context diagnostic and case specific scenarios.
- Recognize the value of personal and clinical collaborative work through various video didactic, small group, discussions and drawing labs centered on hand anatomy the management of hand pathology.
- Differentiate between initial and concluding knowledge of intrinsic anatomy of the hand and associated diagnoses and pathologies.
- Identify a network of colleagues in which the exchange ideas and contact information may be shared via video technologies.
- Differentiate the difference and value of studying the intrinsics of the hand via various educational modes and media.
